How to Beat Anyone at Chess – The 5 Best Tips

Chess is a game of skill, patience, and luck. That’s why it has been around for so many years. But if you are looking to best some of your opponents then it’s time you brush up. We have some incredible tips that are going to ensure that you beat anyone at chess. So break out the chessboard and get ready for success!

1. Be Bold

This is going to sound a little counterintuitive. Didn’t we just say that chess is a game of strategy and patience? So where does this come in? Challenging board games are in a league of their own. Remember though, your opponent is expecting you to be overly cautious. This doesn’t mean do anything crazy, just be adventurous.

2. Get Your Pawn Out There

A lot of inexperienced players like to open the game by jumping ship and getting the knight out there. Bold is good, but you want your most dynamic pieces (the bishop and queen) to be able to roam freely. Open the pawn up by move one (not two spaces) so you can get ready for some real battle. Remember, chess is ultimately a game that involves both strategy and tactics.

3. It’s All About the King to Beat Anyone at Chess

This is another one of those things that’s easy to forget. Many players waste time and their own side by trying to whittle down their opponent’s forces and then they go to the king. But you have to remember. There is no prize for eliminating more pieces than your opponent does. You win by one way and one way only and that’s through knocking out the king so keep your eyes on the prize.

4. Protect Your King

If you just read tip three and you’ve kept it close to your heart than you are already aware that you need to start thinking about your own king if you want to beat anyone at chess. Now, this can be tricky too because how can you play offense and defense effectively at the same time. This is going to take a little practice so before you go making the big bets against your friends, practice on the computer. You just need to make sure you have a solid defensive perimeter and then you’ll be good to go.

5. Get Your Rooks Out There

Your rooks have some of the best mobility of the game so use them to your advantage. They are absolutely excellent for both offense and defense so use them accordingly. If you have your bishop and queen in offensive mode then hold them back and use them to create that defensive perimeter. Or you can do the reverse and use them offensively so you can beat anyone at chess.

Focus, Determination, Cunning

Of course, at the end of the day, a game is a just a game. But chess is the luxury game of kings and if you truly want to beat anyone at chess then you need to think like one! Follow these great tips and you’ll be on your way to being a master of the board!
